Never Be Bored Again

The Daily Commute, Conquered

The rhythmic click-clack of the train on the tracks provides a steady beat to the morning commute, a sound most passengers tune out as they scroll absently through their phones or stare out at the blur of the passing city. In this sea of passive travelers, one individual has transformed their journey. Bathed in the soft morning light filtering through the carriage window, he holds the R36S, his portal to another world. The sleek design of the handheld rests comfortably in his hands, a stark contrast to the mundane reality of the train car.

The Art of the Layover

Amidst the hustle and bustle of a crowded airport terminal, a traveler finds her own personal oasis. While others impatiently check flight boards and talk on their phones, she’s completely absorbed in the vibrant world of a retro video game on her R36S handheld. The colorful pixels and nostalgic 8-bit soundtrack create a bubble of calm, transforming the stressful wait for her flight into a delightful journey back in time. With each press of a button, she defeats a new enemy and explores a new level, proving that with the right companion, even the most tedious parts of travel can become an adventure.

The Waiting Room Win

The fluorescent lights of the doctor’s office hum overhead, a familiar scene of quiet anticipation. But instead of restless energy or endless scrolling on a phone, a teenager is completely absorbed, his thumbs expertly navigating the vibrant world on his R36S handheld. His mother watches him, not with a look of exasperation, but with a soft, genuine smile. For her, this isn’t just a moment of peace; it’s a small victory. The R36S has transformed the tedious wait into an engaging and quiet escape for her energetic son, bringing a welcome sense of calm and happiness for them both.

Gaming Features

Great Display

The Anbernic R36S boasts a 3.5-inch IPS OCA fully laminated display with a 640×480 resolution. This delivers a crisp, clear image with vibrant colors, making your retro gaming experience visually appealing.

While this resolution might seem low compared to modern standards, it’s important to remember that the R36S is designed for classic games. Most retro games were originally designed for much lower resolutions, so the R36S screen actually provides a sharper image than what you would have seen back in the day.

The IPS technology ensures excellent viewing angles, so you can enjoy your games from any position without distortion.

The OCA lamination minimizes glare and reflections, further enhancing the viewing experience.

Powerful game chip

The Anbernic R36S boasts a Rockchip RK3326 chip, a powerful quad-core processor commonly used in budget-friendly retro handheld consoles. Here’s a breakdown of its features and what it means for your gaming experience:

Solid Performance for Retro Gaming: The RK3326 is well-equipped to handle emulation of a wide range of retro consoles, including:Smooth Gameplay: Expect smooth gameplay for most games within its supported range. However, demanding N64 and Dreamcast titles might experience occasional slowdowns.

For instance, the dual joysticks excel in 3D games, providing precise control and immersive gameplay. Meanwhile, the traditional D-pad caters to classic 2D titles, ensuring accurate inputs for platformers, fighting games, and retro-style adventures. This diverse control scheme allows players to comfortably enjoy a vast library of games spanning different generations and genres.

Say goodbye to accidental presses and hello to a more immersive gaming experience. Our redesigned L/R buttons offer superior comfort and responsiveness, giving you the edge you need to dominate your favorite games.

Understanding your battery life

PRO TIP: UNDERSTANDING YOUR BATTERYThe R36S uses a dynamic voltage reading to estimate battery life. You may notice the percentage drops quickly when you first launch a game—this is normal behavior. The reading will stabilize, and a full charge will typically last 3–4 hours depending on screen brightness and the game being played.
